Ingredient — Turmeric

It is one of the raw materials for incense, and is read as "NYUKOU".
 
It is the rhizome of turmeric, a perennial herb of the ginger family. This is the "autumn turmeric," which flowers in the fall. There are about 50 species of the confusing genus Turmeric. Its English name is "turmeric," which is also familiar as an ingredient in curry powder.
 
It was important in the Heian period as one of the five incense materials “GOKOU”.
