Making incense from the Tale of Genji in Paris
How are you doing?
It's been a week since I returned from Paris.
As I have already announced to all of my eNewsletter subscribers, I have been in Paris since the second week of January on a business trip for my company.

During my stay in Paris, I was able to hold an "incense workshop" at L'Osmotheque , the world's largest fragrance archive and an international research institute that traces the history of perfume.
The decision to go to Paris was made at short notice, and I contacted the director of L'Osmoteque, with whom I had had the opportunity last year, on a whim.
The decision was made to hold the event on a small scale the day before departure.
This will be the first time we are hosting a Bridge and Blend incense workshop in Europe, in Paris.
This time, the participants were perfume and fragrance experts.
Compared to previous workshop participants, they took more detailed notes and asked more questions.
One of the features of Bridge and Blend's session, called the "Incense Making Experience Workshop," is the so-called "fragrant clay play" in which participants are free to choose the shape of their incense.
The workshop was filled with smiles from start to finish as participants sampled each other's fragrances and complimented each other's made incense.
The first comment we received from participants was "It was fun."
They also said they learned a lot, such as the cultural background of Japan, the history of Japanese incense, and the fact that traditional Japanese incense making does not use oils (natural or synthetic).
As the season this time was "winter," we asked them to create a fragrance for KUROBO, who also appears in chapters 10, "The Wise Tree," and 32, "The Plum Branch," of the Tale of Genji.
Since KUROBO | Stick Incense was just released last month (December 2024), we asked him to compare the scent of his own incense, KUROBO cone incense, with KUROBO | Stick Incense, allowing him to experience the different expressions of the same fragrance.
Everyone agreed that Bridge and Blend's KUROBO resembled the famous perfume, Opium by Yves Saint Laurent.
